Wax Appeal Vol 5
Date
September 13, 2024
Location
Minneapolis
Wax Appeal, the vinyl-centric party series curated by The Excavators, returned to the Red Sea for another unforgettable night. The Excavators, composed of Conor from Spin Zone, and Jeff (QJ), or as I like to call him, Tangerine Sheen, have made a name for themselves by delving into crates of vinyl and bringing a rich, tactile experience to their audiences. Their dedication to the craft of turntablism was on full display, ensuring that every set was both a journey through vinyl history and a celebration of electronic music.
The event featured a stellar lineup, with The Excavators themselves spinning records and setting the tone for the evening. Adding to the excitement were two local legends: Christian James and Jordan Berndt. Christian James, a seasoned artist with over two decades in the industry, brought his extensive experience and storied legacy to the decks. His performances have spanned warehouses and venues around the world, and his set was a testament to his deep-rooted connection to electronic music. Joining him was Jordan Berndt, a key figure in Kajunga, a prominent Minneapolis record label and party series. Jordan’s contribution to the scene has been nothing short of captivating, and his set at Wax Appeal was no exception. His unique style and dynamic presence added a fresh and invigorating element to the night.
With Camera in hand, being able to witness this event through the vantage point of a lens made for an unforgettable experience. From the deep grooves and intricate vinyl manipulation by Jeff and Conor to the legendary performances by Christian James and Jordan Berndt, the night was a celebration of the art of DJing and the enduring appeal of vinyl.
The Red Sea, with its intimate and vibrant atmosphere, set the perfect backdrop for this session of Wax Appeal. A warm embrace of blue and orange lights cascaded through the air, infusing the space with vibrant energy. The hues danced together, weaving an enchanting tapestry that echoed the night’s magic, crafting an ambiance forever etched in memory. As the dancers moved, their spirits ignited the air, intertwining with the soulful rhythms of the artists. During those radiant moments, their energies merged, creating a symphony of life.
P.S. A big kudos to Nestic Sound, composed of Sam and Lexi Loftus, along with audio engineers Julian Thomas and Jack Blaeser. Nestic Sound’s turbo sound rig has been a staple of the local electronic music scene and has come to know the Red Sea as its second home. Our community has a deep affinity for quality sound, and we are fortunate to have them enhancing our experiences with their passion and expertise.
